How to treat cat scabies mites? Maintain daily cleanliness
Feline scabies is a contagious skin disease caused by scabies mites. It is clinically characterized by severe itching and eczema-like changes in the skin.
The development process of scabies mites can be divided into four stages, namely eggs, juveniles, nymphs and adults. After scabies mites burrow into the host's epidermis, they dig tunnels in the epidermis. The tunnels are connected to the outside world with small holes at regular intervals. The small holes are used for ventilation and as entry and exit holes for the larvae. The worms develop and reproduce in the tunnel.
The disease usually occurs on the head, chest, armpits, inner thighs, lower abdomen, tail base, etc. In severe cases, it can affect the whole body. The surface of the affected area is flushed, with small rash-like nodules, and the subcutaneous tissue wall is thick and scaly. Due to the severe itching of the affected area, the sick cat may scratch, rub, or bite the affected area with local bleeding, hair loss, or even suppuration, forming the so-called abscess-type acariasis. The disease can be initially diagnosed based on clinical symptoms. The best way to confirm the diagnosis is to take skin scrapings, dissolve them with potassium hydroxide, and observe them under a low-power microscope. If the parasite can be seen, the diagnosis can be made.
The most important measure to prevent scabies flies is to keep the cat's body, living place and all utensils clean and hygienic. Bath the cat frequently, comb its coat, disinfect the living environment regularly, and strengthen the care and management of the kitten.
To treat sick cats, 0.5% trichlorfon solution or ointment can be applied locally. Repeat the treatment once every 5-7 days. Generally, it can be cured after 2-3 applications. You can also use 0.1% phoxim emulsion to spray on the surface, or apply 0.1% dimethacrylic acid solution to the affected area. It has a killing effect on scabies mites and should be applied again every one week. Ivermectin also works well when given intramuscularly or subcutaneously.
