1. Causes of intussusception in dogs

Dog intussusception mostly occurs in young dogs with a strong appetite. The main cause of the disease is that the dog eats too fast due to excessive hunger, or due to low milk temperature, poor dog food quality, or drinking too cold ice water. etc., causing gastrointestinal irritation, and intussusception is likely to occur at this time. At the same time, it may also be secondary to canine distemper, canine parvovirus and other infectious diseases and other diarrheal diseases.

2. How to treat intussusception in dogs

The treatment of dog intussusception requires different measures depending on the severity of the condition. For mild cases of intussusception, you can try air enema reduction or enema reduction with warm soapy water. Painkillers and anesthetics are used when necessary, and can also cause the initial intussusception to reset naturally. Dogs with serious conditions must undergo surgery. If the intussusception lasts too long and the intussusceptive intestine has become congestion and necrosis, the intussusceptive intestine must be removed and an intestinal anastomosis performed.

Note: After surgery, the dog needs to fast for 48 hours, supplement the nutrients needed by the body through infusion, and then slowly feed the cat some easily digestible liquid food. Antibiotics may also be used to control infection.
