Do you know the symptoms of dog pleurisy? A must-read for dog owners! In severe cases, the main clinical manifestations are chest pain, cough, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and even difficulty breathing, with obvious abdominal breathing. Infectious pleurisy or secondary infection of pleural effusion may cause chills and fever. Dry pleurisy: respiratory movement is limited, local tenderness, breath sounds are weakened, and pleural friction rub can be heard. Exudative pleurisy: When there is a large amount of effusion, the respiratory movement of the affected side is limited, or even forced into a posture, rapid breathing, and accelerated heart rate. The chest is full, the trachea is displaced to the healthy side, and there is a solid sound on percussion. The breathing is weakened or disappeared.

Prevention and treatment of pleurisy in dogs

(1) Antibiotic treatment

①Anti-tuberculosis drug treatment: suitable for tuberculosis Treatment of sexual or exudative pleurisy. Isoniazid is 300 mg per day, or rifampicin is 450 mg per day, or ethambutol is 0.75~1 g per day, taken once and continuously for 1 month. Streptomycin is 0.75~1g per day, intramuscular injection, for 1~2 months.

② Non-tuberculous pleurisy: Corresponding drug treatment should be selected for the primary disease (such as infection, tumor, etc.).

③ For patients with purulent pleurisy or tuberculous empyema accompanied by infection: 1.6 million to 3.2 million units of penicillin G per day, intramuscular injection in 4 times. An additional 800,000 units can be injected into the chest cavity.

(2) Pain relief

Oral aspirin 0.6 g or indomethacin 50 mg, 3 times a day, or codeine 15~30 mg, 3 times a day.

(3) Thoracentesis and fluid extraction are suitable for patients with exudative pleurisy who have a large amount of pleural effusion, have obvious difficulty breathing, or who have not absorbed the effusion after long-term treatment. The amount of liquid drawn each time should not exceed 1000 ml, 2 to 3 times a week.

(4) The combination of hormone therapy and anti-tuberculosis drugs has a positive therapeutic effect on eliminating systemic toxic symptoms, promoting the absorption of effusion, and preventing pleural thickening and adhesion. Prednisone 15 to 30 mg can be taken orally in 3 doses. When the systemic symptoms improve and the fluid absorption is significantly reduced, the dosage can be gradually reduced. Generally, the medication is taken for 4 to 6 weeks.

The above introduces the symptoms of dog pleurisy. If parents have no experience, they should take their dogs to the pet hospital for treatment in time.
