Urine indicates cat disease. You can judge the cat’s physical condition from urine! Urine, as a kind of body excretion, has a lot to do with some abnormal conditions in the metabolism and operation of the cat’s body. It is a good indicator, especially for a careful owner, who can often judge what disease his cat has by observing the cat's urine. The observation method of urine can usually start from two aspects: color and smell.

1. Urine color

Colorless urine may be a sign of diabetes, chronic interstitial nephritis, and diabetes insipidus, if you do not drink too much water Therefore, attention should be paid to identification.

White urine is common in purulent urine, chyluria and salt urine. Purulent urine is caused by severe purulent infection of the urinary tract and causes milky white urine. Pyuria is common in pyelonephritis, cystitis, renal abscess, urethritis, or severe renal tuberculosis.

Chyluria is one of the main symptoms of filariasis, and the urine is as white as milk. Since the chylofluid (liquid after fat saponification) absorbed by the intestines cannot be drained from the normal lymphatic vessels into the blood circulation, it can only flow back into the lymphatic vessels of the urinary system, causing the internal pressure of the lymphatic vessels in the urinary system to increase, causing varicose veins and rupture. The chylofluid overflows into the urine, causing chyluria. Chyluria is usually paroxysmal. When red blood cells are present in chyluria, it is called chylohematuria. Salt urine occurs more often in young cats. It is common in winter. The urine is like rice soup. Most of the time, the urine contains a large amount of phosphate or urinary hydrochloric acid. It is easy to precipitate after being left alone. If the urine is heated in a bottle, it will become clear immediately. Salt urine is a normal physiological phenomenon. It can be cured without medicine, the key is to drink more water.

Yellow urine refers to urine that is yellow or dark yellow. The reasons are: when eating carrots and taking riboflavin, furazole, metronidazole, rhubarb and other Chinese and Western medicines, the urine may turn yellow. Once you stop taking it, it will disappear immediately, so there is no need to worry.

Common cats with fever or symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea will have urine that is concentrated and reduced because water is excreted with sweat or feces, but the urine pigment does not change, so the color of the urine appears very yellow.

Another type of urine that is yellow like strong tea is not due to the above reasons, but due to liver or gallbladder disease. It turns out that there are usually two ways for bile to be discharged: one comes out of the urine and the other comes out of the intestines. When the liver or gallbladder is diseased, the path of bile to the intestines is cut off, and it can only be excreted in the urine. The urine also turns dark yellow due to the increased bile content. In the early stages of hepatitis, jaundice has not yet appeared. We can often see that the color of urine is like strong tea, which is often a sign of hepatitis. In addition, yellow turbid pyuria is a symptom of urinary organ suppuration.

Blue urine can be seen in cholera, typhus, primary hypercalcemia, and vitamin D poisoning. However, urine of this color is often related to medication and is not caused by disease. It may occur after taking the diuretic triamterene, injecting methylene blue injection, or taking methylene blue, indigo, creosote, or salicylic acid. It disappears when the medication is stopped. 2. Urine smell

Of course, the abnormal urine smell of cats needs to be distinguished from the normal urine smell. Bacteria in cat feces often convert uric acid into ammonia, which gives the urine a foul smell.
