When should a cat start training to use cat litter? Teach you how to train a cat to use cat litter! Kittens need to be stimulated to defecate. Most of the time, kittens will urinate first, and defecation may not happen every time. It happens every time, but if there is any, it is necessary to record the amount and texture of the stool each time (normal stool should be toothpaste-like, yellow-green like mustard). Be sure to stimulate your kitten to defecate to avoid constipation.

Stimulate defecation until the kitten is 3 to 4 weeks old, and then you can let it learn to use the litter box. At first, they won't know the purpose of the litter box. You can stimulate them to defecate above the litter box. When they start to defecate, put them in the litter box and let the feces be discharged in the litter box. Most of the time kittens figure it out naturally and learn to use cat litter on their own. Fifteen minutes after each feeding, put the kitten in the sand basin to remind it to go to the toilet. The initial litter box should not be higher than one inch (2.5CM) to make it easier for the kitten to get in and out. Do not use clumping cat litter because kittens will eat randomly, and clumping cat litter contains cement-like ingredients that may clog their intestines and cause major problems if eaten.

Until the kitten learns to use a litter box, it is best to raise the kitten on a floor that is easy to clean. If you find that your kitten always goes to the toilet in a fixed place, clean and deodorize it well and put a small basin of cat litter on it. This may speed up the training progress because they are used to going to the toilet in that place, and the cat litter It will trigger their nature. Once they get used to the small litter box, you can slowly move it to the location of the larger litter box you want them to use and place it in the larger litter box.

If the kitten makes a mistake and goes to the toilet outside the cat's sand basin, put its feces in the sand basin and bury it shallowly to remind it that this is the toilet. When you start training, you can put newspapers on the place where the kitten moves, just in case.
