Cats’ eyes come in many colors, including yellow, brown, blue, orange, green, amber, etc. Cat eye colors vary, which has a lot to do with the breed of cat and their genes. Some breeds of cats have special eyes. For example, purebred Ragdoll cats and Siamese cats have beautiful blue eyes. Yellow is the most common color in Chinese garden cats. At the same time, some cats with coat colors also have special eye colors. For example, pure white cats are prone to mandarin duck eyes.

How do cats’ eyes appear?

1. There are two main reasons for the color of feline eyes. Iris pigmentation and blue light reflectance.

2. The pigmentation of the iris is caused by melanin, and the color ranges from lemon yellow to light brown to dark orange or brown.

3. The transparent structure of the cat's eyes is also transparent and the shades of blue range from colorless to very dark blue or violet-like blue. This combination of blue light reflected colors and the colors produced by iris pigmentation make up all cat eye colors.

4. Iris pigmentation and transparent structural pigment are controlled by multiple polygenes at different locations on the chromosome. Kittens in a litter inherit a mixture of these polygenes from their parents and produce different eye colors. Different polygene mixtures result in arrangements of shades of color.
