I believe that when many parents first have their own furry children, they want to take them home and give them a bath, so that they can have a soft and fragrant puppy. But puppies of different ages have different bathing times. So how old can a puppy take a bath? Things to note when bathing a puppy!

Stages of bathing a puppy

Newborn puppies have poor resistance and their immune systems are not fully developed. They are likely to catch a cold during bathing, which may lead to disease. Therefore, it is recommended that newborn puppies not take a bath. If you must take a shower, be sure to keep warm. Puppies usually cannot be bathed until two months after they are born. If they are just brought home, they need to live in the new environment for 1 week to adapt to the new environment before starting vaccinations. A 3-shot vaccine program is usually given at about 3 months of age, and bathing can only occur 7 days after completing the vaccine to prevent diseases caused by low immunity. If you want to bathe a dog without immunity, dry cleaning is recommended. Generally speaking, puppies under six months old should not be bathed, but you can choose dry cleaning, that is, spray conditioner and baby powder diluted more than 1000 times every day or every other day. Frequent brushing can replace washing with water. Do not bathe your dog if he is already sick. Because puppies are weak, they are prone to respiratory infections, colds and pneumonia after bathing and cooling. At the same time, bathing will also affect the amount of hair growth, hair color and hair quality.

Precautions for bathing

The first bath should be carried out step by step to avoid negative effects on the puppy, otherwise the bath will be offensive to the puppy. Or take your puppy to a more experienced pet store who can handle your pet gently. If the work in the pet shop is rough and the unfamiliar environment is more likely to cause stress reactions, it is recommended that the puppies be bathed at home. The temperature of bath water is between 35 and 38 degrees, which can be slightly higher. Immerse the puppy in clean water and wipe away any secretions near the anus. Since dog hair shampoo is more irritating to puppies, use baby shampoo instead. After rubbing the shampoo on your hands a few times, quickly rub it on your puppy.

First, clean the puppy's chest and limbs to prevent it from being particularly scared. Be careful not to let water enter the ears, wipe them gently and then wash the head. Water and foam should be kept away from the eyes, nose and mouth, otherwise it will resist strongly. After washing, the hair must be dried, and the seams of the ear canal and toes must be cleaned and blown dry, otherwise skin diseases may easily occur. Give the dog some food as a reward after bathing so that it has a pleasant memory so that it will not resist bathing in the future.
