If you keep Egyptian tortoises for a long time, they can get to know their owners. However, its IQ is not very high and it cannot recognize the appearance of its owner. It can only produce conditioned reflex behaviors by becoming familiar with the owner's smell and voice. After the Egyptian tortoise gets to know its owner, it will stick out its head when the owner feeds, and actively crawl to the owner's side, showing excitement. When the owner touches them, they basically won’t resist and show how much they enjoy it.

How the Egyptian tortoise recognizes its owner:

1. Open its mouth to receive food. If the owner is feeding the turtle, he will find that it will paddle quickly with its limbs, actively approach him, and then open his mouth, waiting for him to feed.

2. Identify the owner. Turtles can also distinguish between their owners and strangers. Once a stranger comes to the home, the turtle will retract its head and become a turtle with a shrunken head. When there is only one owner at home, the tortoise will not be restrained and will explore everywhere with curiosity.

3. Will not run away. If when raising a tortoise, it does not show any movement to escape, but approaches you, this is also a sign that the tortoise recognizes its owner.

4. Relax and content. When the owner approaches the turtle, it will not show fear and retract its head into the turtle shell. Instead, it will appear in a leisurely and contented state, still doing its own thing.

5. Get close to the owner. A turtle that recognizes its owner will also get close to the owner. When the turtle is put on the ground, it will crawl towards the owner instead of constantly crawling away from the owner.
