How to judge whether a dog is fat or thin

There are two main methods, one is to look and the other is to feel.

One look

First, look at the dog’s back from top to bottom and judge based on the curve displayed on the back. Furthermore, look at the side body bones shown when the dog is standing sideways. The first type is too thin! Viewed from above: the topline is wavy, the waist is obviously concave, and the chest rib line is uneven. Viewed from the side: the ribs are visible and the waist is severely sunken. The second type: thin. Viewed from above: The topline is hourglass-shaped, the waist is still obviously concave, and the chest line is relatively stable. Viewed from the side: The chest ribs are not so obvious to the naked eye, but it is still easier to see the extent of the ribs with the naked eye. The waistline is still concave, but it's not as serious as before. The third type: Moderate (rational state) Looking down: the waist is slightly sunken and the chest is relatively stable. Viewed from the side: The ribs are looming and cannot be seen, and the waistline is slightly sunken. Type 4: Fat. Looking down: Just remember, no matter how you look at it, it’s straight. Bucket shape. Looking from the side: The ribs are hard to see, so you need to rely on touch to judge. The belly is obvious, rather large and slightly saggy. Type 5: Overweight Overview: What’s more exaggerated than a bucket waist? Wine barrel! Look sideways: Do you still need to look at it, do you still need to judge?

Two touches

Type 1: Too thin No need to touch. If a dog can be described as skinny, that’s it. Generally, domestic dogs will not appear, and there are more stray dogs. The second type: thinner. The skinny texture is quite obvious to the touch, especially in the ribs! You can feel that only a small amount of fat covers the ribs. Type 3: Moderate (ideal) When touching the ribs, you can feel a layer of fat covering them and feel the bones. It has the feel of bones and fat coexisting, which is ideal. The fourth type: Overweight. More fat covers the ribs. The ribs are not easy to feel and need to be pressed with a little force. Type 5: Overweight You have to press hard to feel a little bit of the ribs...

What should I do if it is determined that the dog is overweight/obese?

1. Control diet

especially for growing dogs. It stands to reason that growing dogs are less likely to gain weight because they are active. Because during this period, as a medium to large dog, Golden Retrievers must protect joint development at the same time. They cannot rely on excessive exercise to lose weight, and they are not suitable for rapid running. Therefore, it is recommended that walking or trotting at a constant speed is enough ~ and the amount of exercise should not be large. There is no other way but to control it through diet. ① Avoid overfeeding. If you feed dog food, strictly refer to the package dosage. If you feed homemade dog food, you should control it yourself or ask more experts. ② Avoid feeding too many fattening foods. What foods are fattening? Starches, fats, and excess protein can all lead to obesity. So you will see noCut back on those dogs that eat leftovers.

Second, exercise to lose weight

This point must be targeted at those dogs that have reached adulthood and have stable bones. (Doctors say that Golden Retriever’s joint development is basically completed at 18 months.) At this time, if you increase the amount of exercise appropriately, don’t let the dog eat and sleep all day long, eat while sleeping, and it will naturally lose weight.
