Can pets go on the high-speed rail?

According to regulations, pets cannot be carried on the high-speed rail, but they can be checked in; however, guide dogs can be taken on the high-speed rail. It is clearly stipulated in the "Railway Passenger Transport Regulations" and other regulations. Visually impaired passengers can bring guide dogs into the station and take the bus. When entering the station or taking the bus, they must present the valid ID card used when purchasing the ticket, the disability certificate, the guide dog work permit and the animal health and immunity certificate.

How to check in pets

1. Weigh the pet
Confirm that the weight of cats, dogs and other pets does not exceed 20 kilograms. If they are overweight, they cannot be checked in.

2. Call for consultation
Call the customer service hotline of China Railway 12306 and China Railway Express 95572 to confirm that the luggage and package transportation business has been opened between the destination and destination cities (the luggage and package transportation business at both ends must be opened) .

3. Prepare your own shipping container
The container should be ventilated, strong and firm; have a locking device, a drinking fountain; and a liner at the bottom to prevent animal feces from leaking.

4. Apply for an animal quarantine certificate
When taking a pet to the animal health and quarantine department to apply for an animal quarantine certificate, you should bring the pet's immunity certificate, owner's ID card, etc.

5. Go to the station to go through the formalities on the day of boarding
Consignment: Go to the station to go through the transportation, and separate pets and people.
Escort: Follow the pet on the luggage cart and take care of it yourself.
If the transportation distance is within 200 kilometers and no feeding is required during the journey, escort is not required. If you need escort, please purchase the ticket for the train you intend to take in advance and go through the escort procedures with the ticket.

Precautions for transporting pets

1. If the trip takes a long time, it is recommended to consult the veterinarian whether the pet needs to be sedated
2. The luggage cart provides a normal temperature transportation environment. Temperature differences between regions may cause pets to be uncomfortable. Please check the temperature in the area you arrive in advance and take necessary measures to keep your pet warm.
3. Please do your pet’s fasting, urination and other tasks in advance.
4. Pet owners applying for escort should go to the station to complete the procedures at least 2 hours before taking the train. If the pet owner's train is not equipped with a luggage cart, please consult the station for the appropriate train number and go to the station to complete the procedures 2 hours before departure.
5. When traveling by high-speed rail, please note that the check-in station and the train station are not at the same station. Please arrange your trip reasonably based on factors such as the station distance and train departure time.
