Symptoms of acute mastitis

Acute mastitis is caused by Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli and other infections after scratches or bites by puppies. Dogs will have systemic symptoms such as fever, lack of energy, and loss of appetite. The inflamed area will be hot and painful, and the breast will become hard. A small amount of blood-like fluid will appear when the breast is compressed.

Symptoms of chronic mastitis

The systemic symptoms of chronic mastitis are generally not obvious. One or more nipples begin to harden, and secretions may appear when the nipple is pressed with hands. Symptoms of vesicular mastitis

Vesicular mastitis is more common in older dogs, and hyperplasia vesicles can be palpated when the dog's breast is touched.

The main treatment principle is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.

How to prevent mastitis in dogs

Before or after giving birth, pay attention to the cleanliness of the female dog’s body and the kennel. It’s best to clean your nipples after each feeding. Owners need to observe that after the dog is breastfeeding, if the puppy is not full and keeps exchanging, it may be insufficient milk.
