Treatment of unexplained fever in dogs and cats
If clinically confirmed, specific treatment can be carried out. If there is no diagnosis, treatment becomes difficult. First, broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotics are given to the dog and cat for systemic antibacterial treatment. If the antibacterial treatment is unsatisfactory or completely useless, an immunosuppressive dose of corticosteroids can be used for trial treatment. If there is no response to corticosteroid treatment, antipyretics may be used.
