Urethritis in cats is mostly caused by bacterial infection, so there are many possibilities, such as infection during breeding, infection in other parts of the urinary system, infection caused by stones, or even stomatitis or gingivitis, etc. Cats with symptoms may also develop urethritis by licking the urethral opening. Some cats may also have a stress reaction due to fright, leading to endocrine disorders and thus suffering from urethritis. Generally speaking, male cats have a higher infection rate because their urethras are narrower, and some elderly cats are more susceptible to it because of their weakened functions. Therefore, owners need to clean their cats regularly.
