Fever is one of the main symptoms of a cat cold, but because the body temperature of cats is slightly higher than that of humans, sometimes it is difficult to notice even a fever. If you want to confirm if a cat has a fever, you can use a thermometer to measure its temperature. The body temperature of a healthy cat is usually between 38.5℃-39.5℃. If your cat's body temperature is higher than this, it's a sign of fever.

Measure body temperature

It is impossible to tell whether a cat has a fever just by touching it. This needs to be confirmed by temperature measurement. Grab a thermometer, lube, and paper towels and you can start taking your cat's temperature. Place the lubricated thermometer into your cat's anus and move it as gently as possible to avoid injuring your cat. After a while, you can take it out and check the temperature.

If you don’t dare measure your cat’s anal temperature, skin temperature can also be used. You may choose to clip the thermometer to your cat's hind legs to secure it so it doesn't move. After a few minutes you can take the temperature. However, the skin temperature will be slightly lower than the anal temperature. It is recommended to add about 0.5℃ to this temperature.

Help cool down

If the cat has a severe fever, it is recommended to send it to the hospital for treatment in time. Low-grade fever can be used to help cats cool down. Place the cat in a quiet, cool place and wipe its body with a wet wipe to slowly lower its body temperature.

Supplement moisture and nutrition

It is very important to replenish water and nutrition for sick cats. Fever may cause dehydration in cats, so scavenger officials should always have fresh water available for cats to drink. If the cat really doesn't want to drink, he can use a syringe to assist in feeding him water. Food should be prepared that is easy to digest and highly nutritious to supplement the nutrients and energy the cat needs and promote recovery.

If the cat has a cold and fever, the fecal scraper can also give it some Pointe cold medicine to relieve the symptoms. Keeping warm is especially important during this time. Be careful not to let your cat catch another cold, or the cold symptoms will worsen.
