What does it mean when a cat bites another cat's neck?
0 May 08,2024
Recently, cats often look very sick and in pain after finishing cleaning their kittens. When I went over to look at the cat’s urine, it turned out that it was not normal. It was green. The cat was probably sick and was probably suffering from urethral disease. inflammation, which not only prevents cats from going to the toilet clearly, but also affects other mechanisms of the body. How to tell if a cat really has urethritis?
What is feline urethritis
Feline lower urinary tract disease, also known as feline urinary tract syndrome, is not an exact diagnosis, but a medical term used to describe a series of clinical symptoms. These symptoms include: hematuria; frequent trips to the toilet but very little urination each time; difficulty urinating; urethra blockage; anuria; frequent licking of the urethral opening (mostly due to pain); and irregular urination in places other than the litter box.

Symptoms of feline urethritis
In retrospect, every time it gets sick, it always has the following symptoms:
Early stage: unable to finish urination after squatting for a long time, frequent urination, and irritability. ——This is usually urethritis
Mid-stage: decreased appetite, peeing everywhere, pain during urination leading to howling, frequent licking of buttocks, and even jumping
Late stage: vomiting - the vomitus will be yellow in the later stage (when this occurs, it is usually urinary poisoning, and urination and rehydration must be done immediately).
When the attack occurs repeatedly, hematuria will occur and there will be blood streaks in the urine.
Causes of feline urethritis
Whether feline urethritis is bacterial or not is difficult to judge based on symptoms alone. A urine sample needs to be taken for a culture test, but even if the culture test result is negative, it cannot deny that it is bacterial. The old number seemed to be 70% non-bacterial, but my vet said recent research shows that the actual bacterial infection is much more, just hard to detect.
Types of feline urethritis
There are several causes of feline urethritis, bacterial infection, or infection during mating, bacterial infection caused by cystitis, urinary syndrome, urinary stones, and cats with oral infections such as gingivitis caused by licking the vulva with their tongue. At the same time, endocrine disorders when cats are depressed/frightened may lead to inflammation of the lining of the bladder, affecting normal urination, increasing the chance of bacterial infection, and thus causing more severe inflammation.
