The symptoms of diabetes are relatively subtle, and it may take a long time to notice some similar symptoms. Diabetes is actually a metabolic disorder caused by a relative or absolute deficiency of insulin. Because it is difficult to detect, it is relatively troublesome. However, we should still understand the symptoms of feline diabetes.

When insulin is lacking, the body's protein will be in a state of decomposition, causing the animal's weight loss and muscle atrophy. Therefore, some animals will have weakness in their hind limbs and reduced jumping ability.

Insulin can promote fat synthesis. When there is a lack of insulin, a large amount of fat will be broken down, causing weight loss. The decomposed fatty acids are transported to the liver, where ketone bodies are easily generated. Therefore, many dogs and cats develop ketoacidosis soon after they develop diabetes. In addition, many cats are also susceptible to fatty liver disease.

When ketoacidosis occurs secondary to diabetes, there is usually severe dehydration, hypovolemia, metabolic acidosis, and sometimes shock. Ketosis and glycosuria will remove many electrolytes from the urine, causing low sodium in the body, aggravating hypovolemia and dehydration. Ketosis and hyperglycemia will stimulate the body's chemical receptors and cause nausea, vomiting and anorexia.

Eventually severe dehydration will cause hyperviscosity, thrombosis, severe metabolic acidosis, renal failure and death.
