Follicular cysts can cause a cat’s appetite, weight loss, physical weakness, and can also prolong the cat’s estrus period. If you touch your cat's abdomen with your hands, you may feel a lump the size of a small egg, which is elastic to touch.

Clinically asymptomatic cats do not require treatment. Ovarian cysts can be removed if the symptoms are obvious. If the cyst ruptures or twists and causes an acute abdomen, one side of the appendix may be removed. Preoperative preparation requires improvement of the sick cat's general condition, choice of anesthesia, use of equipment and related medications, and emergency measures.

The method, scope and specific operations of the surgery should be determined according to the age of the cat, the nature and size of the tumor, unilateral or bilateral growth, and whether there is adhesion or malignant metastasis. For some cases where the diagnosis cannot be determined, the diseased tissue may be taken for biopsy before proceeding. It should be noted that follicular cysts occasionally cause acute abdomen due to rupture or torsion due to thin cyst walls.
