Whether cat umbilical hernia has any impact on cats needs to be discussed on a case-by-case basis. Generally speaking, if the cat’s umbilical hernia does not gradually become larger as it grows, it will not have much impact and the owner does not need to worry. If the cat’s umbilical hernia is slowly getting larger, it is recommended that the pet owner consult a pet doctor for examination and treatment in time.

Surgical treatment of cat umbilical hernia:

1. After general anesthesia, the cat is placed in a supine position, and the bottom of the abdomen and groin are prepared aseptically.

2. The incision is located in the midline of the posterior abdomen, going forward from the front edge of the pubic bone to the back of the hernia sac.

3. When incising the skin, pull the skin covering the hernia sac toward the abdominal midline so that the incision will naturally be located at or close to the hernia sac after the skin incision.

4. Bluntly separate the subcutaneous tissue, expose the hernia sac and external inguinal ring, open the hernia sac, and collect the hernia contents.

5. After the hernia contents are still included in the abdominal cavity, tighten the hernia sac, and ligate and remove the excess hernia sac below.
