As soon as the puppy is born, it will suck milk immediately. The puppies should be allowed to lie next to the mother dog so that they can suckle. If there are many litters in one litter, the last litter (usually thin and weak) should be placed on the last two pairs of teats to suck. After several repetitions, each litter will have fixed teats.

Newborn puppies suddenly leave the mother's womb and come into contact with the outside world. At this time, the biggest difference is in temperature and lung respiration. The body temperature of newborn puppies is low (the body temperature is 34.5-36°C within 1-2 weeks after birth, and there is no shivering reflex. They completely rely on external heat sources (such as the mother's body) to maintain normal body temperature. Therefore, they must be kept warm (those who die within 1 week) About 50% of puppies are caused by cold.

Puppies from birth to weaning (about 45 days old) are called puppies. Puppies do not open their eyes until 12 to 15 days after birth. Their mobility is poor, but they grow faster and have higher nutritional needs. Therefore, the following aspects of work should be done well when raising puppies.

Some puppies will not breathe or bark when they are just born, that is, they will appear in suspended animation. At this time, you can turn the head downward, rock the dog's body left and right, use a suction ball to suck out the amniotic fluid in the puppy's mouth and nose, and wipe it with an alcohol cotton ball. The mucous membrane of the nostrils and the whole body, and press the chest wall gently and rhythmically. Usually, the puppy can start to breathe on its own after artificial respiration for 3-4 minutes. At this time, put the puppy into 39℃ warm water and wash away the dirt on the body. , then dry it with a towel and put it in the incubator.

Eat colostrum in time: The milk secreted by the female dog within one week after giving birth is colostrum. Colostrum is rich in r-globulin, which can enhance the disease resistance of puppies. The stomach of a puppy has digestive function 5 hours after birth. Therefore, the puppy must eat colostrum within 12 to 48 hours after birth. It is best to have colostrum within 6 hours after birth. Under normal circumstances, the female dog’s colostrum is completely sufficient for the puppies to eat. If artificial feeding is required, feed it every 3 hours in the first week; feed it every 4 hours in the 2nd to 3rd weeks; after 20 days, feed it every 3 hours. Feed once every 6 hours. The artificial milk formula is: 1 egg, 300 grams of concentrated bone broth, appropriate amount of baby cake powder, 200 ml of fresh milk, mix and cook, add 1 gram of lysine, 0.6 grams of methionine, 2 grams of fast fat, Appropriate amount of salt (0.5%), filtered with gauze.

Artificial feeding: When breast milk is insufficient, artificial feeding with milk or milk powder should be carried out in time. Since dog milk is thicker than milk, feeding milk alone is not nutritious, so you need to add some milk powder to the milk to feed the puppies. In addition to the death of the female dog, the newborn puppies must be allowed to eat colostrum to enhance disease resistance and improve the survival rate.

Artificial supplementary feeding: After 20 days after giving birth, the lactation volume of the bitch begins to decrease. Generally, supplementary feeding begins a few days after birth. Feed fresh milk, rice, and meat every day. About 100 ml of milk per day, the milk temperature is between 27°C and 30°C, divided intoFeed 3 to 4 times. After reaching 20 days of age, feed 200 ml of milk every day. You can also refer to the following supplement formula: 500 grams of lean meat or offal (minced), 3 eggs, 300 grams of cornmeal, 300 grams of flour, 500 grams of vegetables (chopped), appropriate amount of auxin, 4 grams of salt, mix well Add water to make steamed steamed buns. When feeding, add 5 grams of lysine, 3 grams of methionine, 10 grams of fast fat, an appropriate amount of multi-vitamins, sprinkle it on the cold steamed buns, and add a little bone broth for the puppies to lick.

Artificial breastfeeding method: Within 10 days after birth, the puppy should be fed about 100 ml of milk every day. The tool can be replaced by a baby feeding bottle, and the puppy should be fed 4 to 6 times a day. After opening its eyes, let it practice its feeding ability, feed it with a plate, and let it lick food. From 10 to 20 days after birth, the amount of milk supplement is about 300 ml. After 25 days, train the puppies to eat porridge-like food by themselves. In about 45 days, you can stop breastfeeding completely and switch to porridge-like food.

Fostering: This method is suitable for situations where the bitch has given birth to too many litters, the bitch has died after giving birth, and the bitch has little or no milk after giving birth. At this time, let other lactating female dogs (nanny dogs) nurse the puppies. This method is more beneficial to the growth and development of puppies than artificial feeding. However, the delivery time requirements of the two litters of dogs are similar, the breed size is basically the same, and the age difference is generally no more than 3 days.

Breastfeeding method: Mother dogs identify their puppies by their smell. Before feeding, apply the nanny dog's milk or feces thin liquid on the fostered puppies. A little more should be applied to make them smell. The smell of the nanny dog will make it easier for the nanny dog to accept it.

By the age of 6 weeks, puppies have the function of shivering reflex and self-regulation of body temperature. The eyes open at 10-16 days of age, the ears open at 15-17 days of age, and the breathing rate accelerates, which all help to promote and maintain Higher body temperature: from 2 to 6 weeks old, the body temperature rises to 36-39°C, and after 4 weeks of age, it is close to adult body temperature. It is necessary to strengthen the supervision of the puppies to prevent the death of the puppies due to squeezing, trampling, abandonment and starvation by the mother dog (the puppies are not allowed to eat due to low milk supply).
