Many novice owners are not sure when their puppies should start getting vaccinated. There are also many owners who don’t know that their dogs also need vaccinations long after they get their dogs. So when do dogs usually get vaccinated?

The so-called vaccine is a weakened virus (except for rabies vaccine, which is a fire-extinguishing vaccine). After special treatment, the virulence of the virus is weakened and is not enough to cause disease in animals, but it can activate the body's immune response and cause the body to produce Antibodies are produced to prevent the invasion of viruses, thus creating resistance to viruses.

Vaccine immunization procedure:

Puppies receive the first vaccine injection 45 days after birth, and then receive an additional vaccine injection for two consecutive months. After they become adults, they receive regular vaccinations every year. If vaccinated too early, maternal antibodies will neutralize the vaccine, affecting the immune effect and depleting the antibodies, which has the opposite effect. If vaccinated too late, it will not ensure health.

Specific schedule for immunization:

The first injection of multiple doses: 7th to 8th week after birth

Second injection of multiple doses: 11th to 12th week after birth

The third multi-link injection: 15th to 16th week after birth. Rabies vaccine can be injected at this time

The Dutch Intervet puppy two-part vaccine can be injected on the 28th day after birth before the first dose of the multi-part vaccine.

It is recommended that the Lyme disease vaccine be injected together with the second and third doses

Those who have the above injections will be boosted once a year in the future (the specific immunization program depends on the vaccine used)

Things to note when getting vaccinated:

1. Please go to a regular pet hospital and have a professional veterinarian perform the vaccination. Due to a lack of professionalism, many non-professionals have irregularities in the storage and use of vaccines, which can easily cause the vaccine to lose its immune effect.

2. Since the vaccine is attenuated, it can make dogs immune under normal circumstances, but this is based on the dog's relatively healthy ability. If the dog's immunity is low or immunodeficient, the vaccine will not only fail to produce effective protection, but the original attenuated vaccine will even reverse the disease. Therefore, before injecting the vaccine, the doctor needs to conduct corresponding examinations on the dog to ensure that your dog is healthy before giving the vaccine.

3. Because the immunity of pets will be relatively weak in emergency situations, animals under stress are not suitable for vaccination. Changes in living environment or food are a kind of stress for puppies. Therefore, we would advocate giving the vaccine half a month after the dog is familiar with the new environment.

4. Antibody is a kind of immunogenic globulin, and whenMalnutrition of the body, such as vitamin A or E deficiency, can also inhibit the body's normal protein synthesis, thus reducing the immune response.

5. Because the dog’s immune ability will first decrease and then increase within a period of time after being vaccinated. To keep the pet healthy, do not bathe the dog, change the environment or food, or take the dog out to play within a week after the injection. It is generally recommended to take the dog out for a walk after it is fully vaccinated.

6. Within three days after vaccination, if antibiotics, anthelmintics and other drugs are taken orally, it may also lead to immune failure.

7. It is normal for dogs to experience problems such as increased body temperature, depression, decreased appetite, and pain after injection. Generally, they will be fine in about 2 hours.

8. Vaccines may cause allergies. Although the probability is very low, it is still possible. If there is itching all over the body or swelling of the face, a desensitization injection is required. Therefore, after the vaccination, the pet needs to be observed in the pet hospital for half an hour to ensure that everything is fine before leaving. If there is a reaction in the short term, you need to seek medical treatment in time.
