The ancestors of the Scottish Shepherd lived in the cold northern Scotland, where it was cold all year round, which gave their ancestors very thick and long hair. But it is because of this thick fur that the owners are troubled. Generally, pet dogs that have been kept since childhood are willing to be groomed by their owners. But there are some exceptions. Because they have not developed the habit of combing their coat since they were young, or the original owner has not dealt with it, they will subconsciously resist when they are combed. So how to improve this bad habit of dogs?

Dogs raised by families, especially those raised since childhood, are generally willing to let their owners comb their hair, and some even like to have their hair combed. However, there are also some dogs that have not developed the habit of combing their coat since they were young, or have not been combed by their original owners. When the new owner combs their coat, the dog will subconsciously resist, even when the hair is combed to the abdomen or near the head. When it reaches a certain position, it will bite you, making it impossible for you to continue grooming.

The way to improve this situation is to use a gentle tone as much as possible when combing the coat of your Scottish Shepherd. When the dog is unwilling to be groomed and resists, do not scold it. Instead, use other methods to stroke it to eliminate its wariness. While praising and stroking it softly, continue to groom it, and the dog will gradually adapt.

You can also comb it before breakfast every day, and then feed the dog food after combing the coat, so that the dog will have a conditioned reflex to eat only after combing, and it may be easier to accept grooming. For some dogs that are really disobedient, in order to prevent them from biting during grooming, you can tie the dog's mouth before grooming.

After being tied a few times, the dog will gradually adapt to combing its coat, and will get rid of the bad habit of not being allowed to comb. It is best to use a gauze strip to tie the mouth, because the gauze strip is relatively soft and will not hurt the Scottish Shepherd's mouth. Use the gauze strip to wrap around from the bridge of the dog's nose to the lower jaw, tie a knot, and then wrap it around the back of the neck to tie it tightly.
