Grooming a Papillon is relatively easy, just trim the tufts of hair on the bottom of the feet (do not trim any of the hair between the toes). Their coat is often described as having a nylon texture that does not stick to dirt and requires only a few minutes of grooming every day to keep it clean. Use some high-quality children's shampoo when bathing, and then blow it out while combing it. Pay special attention to not getting water into your ears. After bathing and no sewage remains, wipe dry with sterilized cotton balls.

Choose some light-colored oil such as coconut oil and apply it on the ear fringes or body to make your dog show its best performance in the beauty pageant. The hard stubble at the muzzle should not be pulled out, because in this dog's view, they can protect the eyes. For some special occasions (including beauty pageants), Papillon dogs need to be thoroughly "dry cleaned".

Hair standards: single layer, silky, fine, slender, rich, elegant and elastic, with a ruffle on the chest, neat and flat back and sides of the body, and smooth hair on the skull, muzzle, front of the forelegs and hind legs. The lower part of the body is densely covered with short hair, the back of the front legs becomes less hairy from top to bottom, and the upper part of the hind legs is rich in silky hair, forming elegant "skirts". There are silky tassels on the inner surface of the ears, the tail is equipped with soft long feathery hair, and the short and fine tufts of hair on the feet extend out of the toes to form cute little tips.

Breed Note: The modern Papillon evolved from the beagle that was popular in continental Europe during the French Renaissance. It was named because its ear structure resembles the wings of a butterfly spreading its wings, which is also the most significant feature that distinguishes it from other breeds.

Butterfly dogs have now become exhibition dogs or pet dogs. Although they do not really have the trust of the majority of dog lovers in the United States, in fact, there are many among them who are the best in beauty competitions.

Daily maintenance

Papillon dogs are extremely easy to get close to. They are the most delicate and intelligent dog breeds. They are happy, alert and friendly. The body is stronger than it looks and likes outdoor sports. This dog is very exclusive with its owner and will be jealous of third parties. Therefore, owners of Papillon dogs need to have sufficient free time at their disposal and regular management. For example, its long hair must be combed with a boar bristle brush every day. But you don’t have to tie your hair like a Shih Tzu.

This dog will naturally change its hair once a year, usually between March and April, so there is no need to trim its fur. Papillon dogs love to be active.

When raising Papillon dogs, attention should be paid to their adequate nutritional intake.
