White cats should not bask in the sun too much. Melanin can protect a cat’s skin from sunlight damage. The less melanin is lacking, the lower the body’s resistance to sunlight, and the greater the damage it will suffer. Excessive sun exposure of white cats may cause skin inflammation, and in severe cases, it can even induce skin cancer and squamous cell carcinoma.

The reasons why cats like to bask in the sun:

1. Vitamin supplements. Cats need vitamin supplements. There is something in a cat’s fur that can turn into nutritious vitamins when exposed to the sun.

2. Comfortable. It is very comfortable for cats to bask in the sun. When people feel very hot, cats do not think so. Even when the weather is very hot in summer, the cat’s four paws and the end of its tail are cool.

3. Because I am afraid of the cold. Although cats are not afraid of heat, they are very afraid of cold, so when it is colder, cats will prefer to stay in some warm places, and the sun is very good.

4. Remove moisture. Basking in the sun can remove moisture from the cat's surface and prevent cats from developing skin diseases such as fungi and parasites caused by staying in dark and humid places for a long time.

5. Calcium supplement. Basking in the sun can help cats replenish calcium, which is beneficial to the growth of their bones and helps their growth and development.
