Reasons for how fast Greyhounds run and how to choose

Why do some greyhounds have particularly good explosive power, which means they can pick up speed very quickly? Why do some greyhounds not pick up speed very fast, but have very good endurance and are suitable for running long distances?

These reasons are all determined by the muscle tissue of the Greyhound. When the Greyhound is running, it is actually doing two kinds of exercises: one is anaerobic exercise and the other is aerobic exercise.

Greyhound speed-up is an explosive anaerobic exercise, that is, it reaches its maximum speed in a short period of time. This kind of exertion often only lasts for a few seconds. This kind of exercise consumes a substance called creatine phosphate (creatine phosphate). ATP) substance, creatine phosphate can directly supply the energy needed by muscles, and there is no need to add oxygen at this time. However, creatine phosphate will be consumed in a few seconds. The next exercise is aerobic exercise, which can last for several hours. At this time, the sugar (that is, starch) and fat in the body participate in oxidative conversion and are converted into energy.

The muscles of greyhounds are different and the feel is also different. The muscles of dogs with good explosive power are very soft, highly stretchable and feel like water. Such muscles are most suitable for running and are not easy to be strained. The muscles of some greyhounds are particularly hard, giving them a strong appearance. Indeed, everyone likes strong muscles, but hard muscles are the most susceptible to strain. Such muscles are not suitable for particularly strenuous running.
