How many times does a cat breathe in a minute?
Under normal circumstances, a cat’s breathing rate when awake and still is 30-40 times per minute. When a cat is sleeping and resting, the breathing rate will decrease, usually within 30 times per minute. If the pet owner finds that the cat's breathing rate increases when it is stationary or resting, it may be due to some respiratory diseases or heart diseases. It is recommended that the cat be checked at the pet hospital in time.
How to measure the number of respirations of a cat
1. Respiration measurement. When the cat is resting, the ups and downs of the cat’s belly are counted as one breath. The number of respirations can be measured in 15 seconds. Then multiply it by 4 to get the number of breaths in one minute.
2. Heartbeat measurement: When the cat is sleeping or resting, you can measure the cat’s heartbeat by finding the ribs on the inside of its elbow with your hands.
