Unless your pet Chow has been living with other animals since he was a puppy, you should expect problems that may arise when your Chow encounters livestock. Once your Chow has been trained not to chase an object of your choice, perform retrieval training in the presence of your pet.

For thousands of years, chows have survived by chasing and hunting other animals. Through selective breeding, humans have gradually softened this instinct in Chows, but some breeds and individual Chows still retain this instinct, which is a serious problem, especially for dog owners. However, Quan was chasing other animals without realizing it was crossing the road. When the adrenaline is high, many chasing Chows may not hear your calls at all and can easily fall into danger.

The first step

The training method is: Unless your Chow has lived with other animals since he was a child, you should anticipate the problems he will encounter when encountering livestock. The Chow stared at the sheep first, but it was held by the leash and under the control of its owner. Do not let your Chow run off the leash in a farm (or other area with animals) unless you are sure it will not chase other animals. You should take similar precautions when your Chow encounters other animals for the first time.

The second step

The purpose of this exercise is to transform the Chow's chasing instinct into controlled movement. Experiment with different toys to find out which toy your Chow likes best. Entertain your Chow with toys.

The third step

The training location should be quiet so that it is not easy to distract. It is best to use a long rope to control the Chow Chow and throw out its favorite toy, but put another toy it likes next to you. It will instinctively chase thrown toys.

Step 4

Before the Chow touches the toy, call its name and order it to "come here." Be more exaggerated when calling your Chow back, and wave the second toy to lure him back. Then play with your Chow and reward him.

Step 5

Go to where the toy is, pick it up, and use the leash to bring it back. Your Chow will know that the toy it is chasing belongs to you. Repeat steps three through five in a more stimulating environment.
