Originally introduced to Russia from the United Kingdom, it is now called the Anglo-Russian Chow Chow. Its characteristics are: a thick body, a head like a fox dog, and short hair, but its coat color is pure, with brown-red being the best, and its hair is upright, dense and fine. . Commonly known as the Northern Lion. Then the United States and Canada introduced and improved it. Its characteristics are: small body, big head, short mouth, long hair on the head and body, but its coat color is not pure, so it is commonly known as the Southern Lion.

Currently, the American Chow Chow Research Association is studying small body improvements without changing the basic appearance characteristics of the Chow Chow.
