Trim your nails When trimming your Shiba Inu's nails, be careful not to cut them too short to avoid bleeding. Use nail clippers to cut bit by bit until you can see the dark ring in the middle of the nail. This is the edge area near the nail flesh and blood vessels.

Some people use an electric nail polisher for pet care. The high speed of the electric tool exceeds the need to trim a miniature schnauzer. It is suitable for larger Shiba Inu dogs. Be careful with electric nail polishing tools because Shiba Inu hair can get tangled in the rotating rod if you're not careful.

Brush your Shiba Inu before bathing and trimming to ensure that the Shiba Inu's coat does not become tangled. The knots in the Shiba Inu's hair will become larger after bathing, so you must first unknot the hair before bathing the Shiba Inu. Use a needle brush to brush the Shiba Inu's beard, limbs and inner hair to ensure that there are no knots. Start at the top and brush upward (opposite the natural direction of the hair), then brush from top to bottom. Some people refer to this method as the "straight bristle method." This step ensures that all the hairs are brushed.

After that, you should comb the hair with a comb to ensure that all the knotted hair can be combed out. Don’t forget the areas on the inside of the limbs and between the toes, where the hair can easily become tangled. A Shiba Inu with a thick coat requires more careful brushing and care than a Shiba Inu with a sparse coat. Scraper-type brushes are often used on Shiba Inu dogs with thick hair.

Normally, the coat should be brushed at least once a week to prevent the hair from getting tangled as it grows. If your Shiba Inu's coat becomes tangled, keep your free hand between the tangles and the skin when grooming. This will cause the Shiba Inu to experience less pain from pulling on the skin.

Bathing Your Miniature Schnauzer should be bathed as often as possible, depending on how dirty it is. The water you use to bathe your Shiba Inu should be warm, not too hot. When bathing your Shiba Inu, be careful not to get water or shampoo into its ears, eyes and mouth. You can put cotton balls in the Shiba Inu’s ears to prevent water from getting into the ear canal. When rinsing the beard, keep the water spray away from the Shiba Inu's head and let the water flow down vertically. Wet the top of the head, tilt the Shiba Inu's head upward, and let the water flow down the back. To wet the belly, lift the forelimbs so that the weight of the body rests on the hind legs. (It is recommended to use shampoo specifically for wire-haired dogs) Good quality shampoo can have good results. Dilute the shampoo with water according to product usage instructions. If the diluting amount is not indicated, it is still diluted with water in a ratio of 1:3.

After applying shampoo to your Shiba Inu, rinse it thoroughly. Otherwise, the shampoo will make the skin dry and flaky. When applying shampoo to the Shiba Inu's beard and coat, squeeze it in. Rubbing shampoo vigorously on your limbs can tangle the hair. You can apply some high-quality hair conditioner on the parts that are not bristles, wait for a while and then gently rinse it off with water, which will have a certain protective effect. Blow drying When drying the limbs and beard of the Shiba Inu with a towel, do not wipe hard but squeeze out the excess water to prevent the Shiba Inu's hair from getting tangled. A tip for exhibitors is to use a hair dryerTie it around your waist to free up your hands to comb down your beard and eyebrows. The hair on the legs should be combed upward, starting with a needle comb, and when the legs are almost dry, switch to a scraper brush.

A scraper brush can break Shiba Inu hair when used on wet limbs. The secret to keeping the hair on your limbs fluffy and straight is to make sure the hair on your legs is blown straight and completely dry. Plug the ear hair and use a No. 40 blade to trim the ears, trimming the outside of the ear in a forward direction and the inside in a reverse direction. Pour a little ear powder into the ear canal and use tweezers to pull out the stray hairs in the ear. After cleaning, pour a little ear oil to clean, and wipe dry with cotton swabs. Extra care should be taken to avoid irritation in the ears.
