"Puppies" refer to puppies that are about 45 days old from birth to weaning. Most puppies are very weak during the lactation period, so they not only need double care, but also appropriate care. Let the puppies learn to take care of themselves and cultivate their ability to survive independently. The work that the owner has to do is to keep warm, prevent pressure, fix the nipples, and provide milk in time, etc.

First of all, after the puppies are born, they move from the constant temperature environment inside the mother's body to the variable temperature environment outside the body. These spotless little guys have sparse hair and their thermoregulatory function has not yet been fully formed, so they must do a good job of keeping warm. At the same time, the bones of puppies born in Hong Kong are very soft, they are unstable and have difficulty moving. They are easily squeezed, suffocated or trampled to death by the female dog. This is where the owner needs to take more care.

Secondly, be careful in eating and supplementing milk. The newborn dog has not yet produced antibodies in its body, but the female dog at this time secretes a large amount of breast milk rich in various antibodies, so the newborn dog must eat enough colostrum. When the puppy is a little older and the supply of breast milk is insufficient, it needs to supplement milk appropriately. Do not feed milk at this time, because the gastrointestinal function of the puppy is very poor, and mixing with milk at this time can easily cause diarrhea. It is best to use special dog milk powder. In order to reduce costs, skim milk or high-calcium skim milk powder can also be used. After boiling and sterilizing, bottle feeding should be carried out at a temperature of around 27°C. Generally, there is no need to deliberately limit the amount of milk supplement, it should be fed until full. After 25 days of age, you can try to feed them with broth and porridge. Little guys often fight over each other when feeding. In order to avoid conflicts and individual stunting, the nipple of each little guy should be fixed so that they can each feed on their own milk and live in peace.

Thirdly, we must be careful and meticulous in daily management. Five days after the puppies are born, you can take advantage of the good wind and warm weather to take them outdoors to bask in the sun with the mother, twice a day, preferably half an hour each time. In this way, the puppies can breathe fresh air and use the ultraviolet rays in the sun to kill bacteria on their bodies. This will also help the coat to dry out and accelerate its growth. Puppies have a lot of dirt on their bodies, so they should be wiped with a soft cloth in time. They should also be bathed every two days. The temperature of the bath water should be between 25-30°C, and the bath water should not enter the ears. After bathing, you can trim the toenails of the puppies to avoid scratching the mother dog’s breasts and other puppies while feeding. After the puppies have a certain amount of physical strength and energy, they can be guided to play and play outdoors, but they must be prevented from biting and fighting with each other.

Finally, it is best for the owner to keep records every day, observe carefully, and treat different puppies differently. If there is any discomfort, first aid can be taken in time. The advantage of comprehensive recording is that the growth patterns of puppies can be discovered through comparison and identification, and scientific management can be carried out to achieve the best results.
