Causes of dry cough in dogs:

1. Foreign bodies in the throat. There are foreign objects stuck in the dog's throat, such as bones, hair, dust, etc. Because the foreign objects continue to irritate the dog's throat, it will cause the dog to develop a dry cough.

2. Infection with parasites. Dogs are infected with internal parasites such as roundworms and tapeworms. A large number of parasites swimming in the body can cause dry cough.

3. Respiratory system diseases. Dogs suffering from respiratory diseases are usually accompanied by symptoms such as listlessness, loss of appetite, and abnormal body temperature.

4. Indigestion. Retching due to indigestion is very common. In addition to retching, dogs are often accompanied by loss of appetite, diarrhea, etc.

5. Getting angry. When a dog gets angry, it usually develops a dry cough. At the same time, the secretions from the dog's eyes will increase and there will be bad breath in the mouth.

6. Canine distemper. The cough caused by canine distemper is accompanied by intermittent fever, which is manifested by excessive eye secretions, yellow urine, pustules in the abdominal cavity, and may be accompanied by sinusitis, digestive system and respiratory mucosa.

7. Dogs with dry cough may have bronchitis. In the early stage, the dog has a severe dry cough, which then turns into a wet cough. In severe cases, it is a spasmodic cough, which is especially obvious in the morning. After the cough, vomiting begins; watery or purulent nasal discharge; accompanied by systemic symptoms such as fever, shortness of breath, and cyanosis of the mucous membrane.

8. A dry cough in a dog may be pneumonia. The symptoms of pneumonia are similar to but more severe than bronchitis. The general symptoms include loss of energy and appetite accompanied by fever above 40°C, severe cough, dehydration, unwillingness to stand, dry nose, runny nose, which first turns into water and then into pus, sometimes a rusty nose can be seen, and there is often severe pain and cough.

Treatment methods for dry cough in dogs:

1. Drink more water. If the dog's cough is a mild symptom, the owner can feed the dog some warm water, which can warm the dog's throat, relieve discomfort, and also help the dog's body metabolism.

2. Use cough syrup. If your dog's cough symptoms are severe, you should take cough medicines in time, such as Bichouping, Keping, loquat cough syrup, etc.

3. Ventilate the environment. Make sure the dog's living environment is clean and open windows for ventilation in suitable weather.

4. Seek medical treatment. Respiratory abnormalities cause dry cough in dogs. In this case, the dog needs to be sent to a regular pet hospital for diagnosis and treatment under the guidance of a doctor.

5. Pay attention to care. You can supplement your dog’s nutrition and feed it supplements that enhance the body’s resistance. Pay attention to prevent your dog from catching cold. After bathing, dry the fur thoroughly in time and keep warm.
