Many people don’t quite understand the definition of puppies. Some dog mothers even identify small dogs as puppies. In fact, this is wrong. Generally speaking, dogs that are about two weeks old are called newborn dogs. They have no ability to survive. Therefore, the breeders should take good care of them and change the kennel bedding frequently to create a good environment for the puppies to grow.

Puppies’ lives should be regular. Feeding should be regular and quantitative, and nutrition should be balanced. Do not allow puppies to develop picky eating habits and cause nutritional deficiencies. Be careful to prevent hypervitaminosis (especially vitamin A or D) or calcium deficiency. Puppies should not overeat. Generally, 7 to 8 minutes is enough. It is strictly forbidden to feed spoiled food. It is best to wash the food bowl after each feeding to prevent diarrhea or food poisoning.

Puppies are afraid of the cold, so whether it is winter or summer, you must pay attention to keeping the puppies warm, and do not let the puppies' abdomen touch the ground for a long time. This will easily catch cold and cause diarrhea or a cold.

Whether it is a small dog or a full-sized dog, it is not advisable to take it for a walk on the road before 5 months old. Since the puppies' bones are not fully developed, walking for a long time can cause bone deformation in the limbs; at the same time, they are very susceptible to diseases outside. Appropriate play and exercise can be done indoors or in the courtyard. When the sun is not too strong and the outdoor temperature is not too high, puppies can bask in the sun and sunbathe, which is beneficial to bone growth.

Puppies that are 2 months old should be able to start educating them on good habits. First of all, give the dog a nice name, call it by name frequently, let her know that you are calling her, and establish a conditioned reflex so that she will come to you immediately. Education about fixed defecation habits can also begin. Although puppies before 4 months old cannot hold back their urine and pee when they have time. They will not be able to urinate in large volumes until 4 months old, but they can be taught gradually.

2 months after birth, the antibodies brought from the mother have been almost eliminated. At this time, various viral diseases may occur. Therefore, it is most important to vaccinate against canine distemper, canine parvovirus and infectious hepatitis. It takes approximately 2 weeks after vaccination to develop resistance (antibodies). At about 2 months, if you have not been vaccinated yet, and when an epidemic is prevalent or you are likely to be infected, you can directly inject anti-virus serum to directly enhance the body's resistance, and wait 2 weeks before vaccination.

After the vaccine is injected at the age of 2 months, since the body's immune mechanism is not fully developed, the immunity produced is insufficient, and repeated injections are needed to enhance the body's immunity. Puppies aged 3 months must be vaccinated against rabies.

From a nutritional point of view, it is best for newborn dogs to be breastfed by the mother dog. If there are too many puppies, attention should be paid to allowing the puppies to follow the mother dog in an exchange manner. Otherwise, the puppies with weak living ability will not be able to suck the mother dog's milk. If this happens to puppies, other methods of breastfeeding must be adopted, otherwise the puppies will not be able to grow up healthily.

Ten days after birth of a newborn dogIn the future, the amount of milk required will increase, and the amount of milk required by the female dog will be insufficient. At this time, artificial breastfeeding will be required. Breastfeeding device can use a small mouth glass bottle, put the rubber nipple directly into the puppy's mouth, and the nipple hole should be as small as possible. The temperature of the cow and goat milk used should be consistent with that of breast milk. Therefore, you must test the temperature with your hands before breastfeeding. The amount of milk received should be appropriately controlled according to the food intake of different puppies, and the frequency should be five to six times a day. When breastfeeding, tilt the bottle slightly to allow the puppy to suck quietly.
