1. The period from birth to weaning of a puppy is about 45 days

The main things to pay attention to during this period are: keeping warm, preventing pressure, and eating enough colostrum. (Newborn puppies cannot produce antibodies in their bodies, so they should try to eat enough colostrum.)

2. Pay attention to development

It is best to weigh yourself regularly. Generally, within 5 days after a puppy is born, the daily weight gain will be about 50 grams on average. From 6 to 10 days, the daily weight gain will be about 70 grams. From 11 days onwards, if the mother's milk is insufficient, the puppy's weight will decrease. The growth rate may decrease. Regular weighing can help you understand the mother's lactation ability from the changes in weight, so as to decide whether to artificially supplement milk.

Supplementing milk: Mainly fresh milk or special goat milk powder. After boiling and sterilizing, the baby should be fed with a bottle at a temperature of 20-30 degrees Celsius.

Amount of milk supplement: Within 15 days, 50 ml of milk per animal. 100ml of milk supplement on the 15th-20th day. After 20 days, add 200 ml of milk.

3-4 times a day. (If fresh milk is not available, milk powder can be substituted with water.)

3. After the puppy is born

In the first 4 days after birth, check frequently to be careful of the mother dog crushing the puppies. After 5 days, when the weather is windy and warm, take the puppy outdoors to bask in the sun with its mother, usually twice a day, for about half an hour each time. Let it breathe fresh air, use ultraviolet rays in the sun to kill bacteria on the body, promote bone development, and avoid getting sick. When you can walk, you can go for a walk outdoors. The time should be short at first and can be gradually lengthened later.

About 13 days after birth, the puppy can open its eyes. At this time, strong light stimulation should be avoided to avoid damaging the puppy's eyes.

After the baby starts to open its eyes at 9-13 days, the milk can be poured into the food plate for licking. (Although some puppies have their eyes open, they still can’t lick themselves.)

Around 20 days, a small amount of rice soup and porridge can be added to the milk.

After 20 days, when the weather is fine, let the mother dog take the puppies to the yard (provided you have a yard) for activities. The time is not limited, and they will return to the room in the evening or on rainy days. If the puppy gets wet in the rain, dry it immediately with a dry towel. Pay attention to keeping warm to prevent colds.

Puppies can have their toenails trimmed once every 20 days to prevent them from scratching their mother’s breasts while feeding.

After 25 days, you can add some broth or vegetable soup, and the amount can be gradually increased to about 200 ml. Be careful not to make it greasy or salty.

After 30 days, you can add chopped cooked lean meat, 15-20 grams each time. After 35 days, the amount can be increased.

30 daysUse anthelmintic medicine to deworm the puppy when needed, and then deworm it once a month.

Generally, weaning can be done in about 35 days, depending on the physical constitution and actual situation.

Note: Supplementary food can be mixed with milk, eggs, minced meat and pasta or rice to form semi-solid food. At the same time, appropriate amounts of cod liver oil and bone meal can be added. 4-5 times a day. It is easy for puppies to get dirty things on their bodies. At first, the mother will lick them off at any time, but when they get older, they will ignore them. Someone needs to wipe and bathe them frequently, once every 2-3 days.
