The Montenegro Mountain Hound is native to Serbia and Montenegro. This is a medium-sized hound with a strong and agile body. The Montenegro Mountain Hound is historically related to other hounds from the Balkan Peninsula. It was recognized in 1924, so this dog has always been a relatively rare breed. The ears are set relatively high, well developed, slightly slender, of moderate thickness, without wrinkles, and the tips of the ears are slightly oval. The head is long, and the skull line and muzzle line are different. The head is longer than the muzzle, and the occipital bone has a certain bulge. The head appears flat or slightly arched whether viewed from the front or side, and the wrinkles on the forehead are obvious. The lips are moderately developed and strong, with the upper lip and lower lip slightly overlapping. Teeth and jaws are strong with a scissors bite.

Trunk characteristics - Montenegro Mountain Hound has a strong and slightly sloping neck, with an inclination of 45° to 50°. The neck and head are the same length, with thin skin, muscles and no fat. The body is rectangular in shape, with a muscular and broad back, medium length, and a smooth topline with a certain curve. Loin muscles are strong and of moderate length. The Montenegro Mountain Hound has a slightly sloping croup, is strong, muscular and broad. Chest strong and deep. The strands of the tail are relatively far back, and the tail is slender and hanging down, long, and looks very comfortable, and its tail has a lot of feathers.

Hair characteristics - The coat of the Montenegro Mountain Hound is short and dense, thick, not thick, relatively smooth and flat, and the undercoat is relatively developed. The basic color of the coat is black with a little brown markings, and there are brown markings on the mouth and lower legs. The color can also transition from brown markings to brownish-red or bright red or light red. A little white spot on the chest is allowed, but the diameter of the spot cannot exceed 3cm.
