If a dog sheds tears, it will make the eyes excessively moist, increase eye feces, and contaminate the hair around the eyes. If you want to cure the problem of dogs' tears, you must first find out the real cause of the dog's tears. So why do dogs like to shed tears? How should parents deal with it?

1. Eye irritation: the most common reason why dogs’ eyes always shed tears

There are many reasons that can irritate a dog's eyes. For example, when bathing, water from the bath liquid flows into the eyes; when going out to play, the eyes are pricked by grass or other things; or smelling an irritating smell can cause irritation. Dogs always cry.

However, this condition usually resolves without treatment. After the dog's eyes are flushed with a large amount of tears, the things that irritate the eyes will be expelled. Generally, the condition will be obviously better on the second day, and completely healed on the third day.

2. Trichiasis: a problem that requires surgery

Some dog breeds are born with trichiasis, which may not be obvious when they are young. As the dog grows older, the tearing becomes more and more obvious. Trichiasis means that the dog's eyelashes do not grow along the outside of the eye, but one or two grow into the eye, which always irritates the eyeballs and causes constant tears.

This situation needs to be treated through surgery, which is somewhat similar to human double eyelid surgery. After the surgery, the problem of dogs always crying can be completely solved.

3. Eye inflammation: a problem that requires eye drops or eye ointments

When a dog’s eyes are constantly watering, the eyes are red, and the area around the eyes is swollen, it indicates that the dog’s eyes are inflamed.

We can treat it by applying eye drops (usually chloramphenicol eye drops are enough) and eye ointments (chlortetracycline or chloramphenicol eye ointment). Often there will be significant improvement on the second day after taking the medicine, and it should be basically healed within three or four days.

IV. Nasolacrimal duct obstruction and ear problems:

Dogs, like people, have internally connected organs in their heads. The blocked nasolacrimal ducts and ear problems mentioned above may cause tears in dogs, but we cannot intuitively explain these two types of problems. If you find out, you can only seek help from a doctor.

In addition to the above four points, if you find that your dog’s eyes are always dirty and teary, and there are no other physical discomforts, you should reflect on whether you have been feeding your dog too well recently. La.
