The main symptoms of cat plague are high fever, poor energy, and not eating. Vomiting is the main symptom. Diarrhea is less common, but may also occur late in the course of the disease. Dehydration and secondary bacterial infection are often the causes of sudden death. Other complications include oral ulcers, bloody diarrhea, jaundice, and generalized intravascular coagulation syndrome.

Routine blood examination will show an inflammatory reaction of elevated white blood cells in the early stage, but it will decrease significantly in the later stage. The fatality rate of feline plague is relatively high, and when the condition is severe, it will generally induce systemic infections, such as sepsis. If a female cat is infected during pregnancy, it can cause stillbirth, miscarriage and neurological symptoms in newborn kittens.

How to prevent cat plague

1. When buying a cat, try to come to see the cat. You can see how the seller raised the cat, or whether he raised it himself. Cats raised by first-hand households have a very low chance of getting sick. It is best to reserve a cat, because the reserved cats generally will not pass through the hands of a few middlemen, which greatly reduces the chance of being infected with the virus.

2. If you have a cat at home, don’t mess around with strangers and stray cats outside. Because stray cats may carry various bacteria and viruses. Even if there is no feline distemper virus, infection with herpes virus, calicivirus, etc. is still very fatal.

3. Owners should vaccinate their cats regularly so that they have sufficient antibodies in their bodies.
