Can cats die from cystitis?

Cystitis in cats generally does not lead to death. Cystitis refers to inflammation of the bladder mucosa. The main clinical symptoms of cystitis are frequent urination. Cats urinate frequently, but the urine output is very small or in dripping form. Some cats will make a sharp cry when urinating.

Treatment methods for cat cystitis:

1. Drug treatment: oral ammonium chloride, 30 mg/kg body weight, 3 times/day; or nitrofurantoin, 5 ~10 mg/kg body weight, 2 times a day, orally for 3 to 5 days; or pipemidic acid 30 mg/kg body weight, 2 times a day, orally for 3 to 4 days.

2. Prevention and treatment of infection: chloramphenicol 30 mg/kg body weight, 2 times/day, intramuscular injection; or ampicillin 30 mg/kg body weight, 2 times/day, intramuscular injection.

3. For cats that are in serious condition and cannot urinate, the bladder can be drained, and the above drugs can be injected directly into the bladder after draining.

4. For hemorrhagic cystitis, hemostatic drugs can be given, with a hemostatic sensitivity of 15 to 25 mg/kg body weight, 2 times/day, intramuscular injection.
