Treatment of peritonitis in dogs

1. Broad-spectrum antibiotics and sulfa drugs can be used in the early stage to prevent infection. Use penicillin at 100,000 units per kilogram of body weight, once intramuscularly, twice a day, for three to five days

2. Abdominal sealing therapy: There are too many births in the abdominal cavity, so puncture and drainage should be done in time. After draining the fluid, 20 ml of 0.2% procaine and 1.6 million units of penicillin were injected into the abdominal cavity at one time. 10% calcium gluconate 30-50ml, intravenously injected once, can stop leakage.

3. In case of anemia, whole blood or plasma can be transfused.

4. To prevent septic shock, steroid preparations can be used.

5. Strengthen careful care, keep sick dogs quiet, and feed them easy-to-digest and nutritious food in a clean kennel. If you have constipation, you can use 0.9% sodium chloride enema.

Symptoms of peritonitis in dogs

1. The symptoms of acute peritonitis in dogs are depression, low appetite, elevated body temperature, and vomiting.

2. Symptoms of hanging abdomen, bowing of waist, tense abdominal wall, sensitive abdomen, or rapid breathing, obvious chest breathing, and fast but weak pulse.

3. The circumference of the poisoned abdomen formed on both sides of the lower abdomen increases, and horizontal dullness may appear when percussed. As the ascites increases, breathing becomes more difficult.

4. When the condition is severe, circulatory collapse may occur, leading to shock and death.

5. The symptoms of localized peritonitis in dogs are that the systemic symptoms are not obvious. When palpated, the pain is limited to certain parts of the abdominal wall.

6. The symptoms of chronic peritonitis in dogs are mild systemic symptoms, and the body temperature only rises slightly in a short period of time. After that it goes back to normal. But at this time, the abdominal circumference increased, and there was a large amount of ascites in the abdominal cavity.
