Care methods for cats with frostbite or hypothermia:

1. Observe whether the body temperature is too low. Some cats will develop hypothermia after frostbite, and hypothermia can be fatal. The normal body temperature of cats is between 38°C and 39.5°C, which is higher than that of us humans.

2. Keep warm and recover. If you find that your cat's body temperature is hypothermic, first let them warm up as soon as possible, wrap the cat in a blanket or other things that can keep warm, and let the cat's body temperature rise.

3. Clean the frostbitten area. Clean the frostbitten area, but be careful not to rub the frostbitten area. Use warm water to gently wipe the frostbitten area so that the skin can regain consciousness as soon as possible.

4. For cats with mild frostbite, you can apply iodine glycerin and camphor oil on the affected area; for cats with moderate frostbite, you can use 5% gentian violet or 5% iodine tincture to rub the injured area. To prevent wound infection, antibiotics are needed for auxiliary treatment; for severe frostbite, the necrotic area needs to be removed and the wound surface cleaned, and then drugs that promote tissue growth and prevent infection need to be applied.

Symptoms of frostbite and hypothermia in cats:

1. Frostbite often occurs on the tips of the ears and the pads of the feet. In the initial stage of frostbite, the skin looks white, feels cold to the touch, and does not respond to painful stimulation. Then the skin becomes necrotic and falls off.

2. When the symptoms of frostbite are mild, the skin disease caused by frostbite will not fall off, but the hair will fall off and grow again. If the hair was black before, the hair will be white when it comes back.

3. Hypothermia is not usually accompanied by frostbite. Symptoms include decreased alertness, tremors, weak or no pulse, slowed heartbeat, and shallow, slow breathing. When the body temperature is lower than 32.2°C, the shivering will stop, and when the body temperature is lower than 23.8°C, death will often occur.
