Symptoms of hypoglycemia in dogs:

1. Lack of energy: Dogs will appear lack of energy, weak, and occasionally have muscle spasms.

2. Muscle twitching: When puppies have low blood sugar, they will show poor mental performance, unsteady walking, facial muscle cramps or whole body muscle twitching. In severe cases, they may fall into coma. In addition, body temperature may drop, heartbeat may be weak, breathing may be slow or difficult, and some dogs may experience vomiting, diarrhea, etc. In severe cases, the pupils may even become dilated and reflexes may disappear.

3. Increased body temperature: Postpartum female dogs will show muscle tonicity or intermittent spasms throughout the body, increased body temperature, accelerated breathing and heart rate.

Causes of hypoglycemia in dogs:

1. Excessive secretion of insulin (such as islet cell tumor), liver glucose storage and conversion disorders (such as fatty liver, cirrhosis) ), adrenal insufficiency, pituitary insufficiency, central nervous system disorders, cachexia and other factors can cause hypoglycemia.

2. Puppies under 3 months old often suffer from hypoglycemia, which is caused by cold, hunger or gastrointestinal disorders.

3. Hypoglycemia in female dogs is mostly caused by excessive litter size, increased nutritional needs and large amounts of lactation after delivery.
