Causes of pneumonia in dogs

1. Inhalation of irritating odors. For example, the smell of smoke, air pollutants, or other irritating odors emitted by pet owners who smoke in front of their dogs may cause lung inflammation and pneumonia after the dog inhales it. Generally, dogs are more likely to get pneumonia if someone in the home smokes regularly.

2. Aspiration of foreign bodies. This condition mainly refers to pneumonia caused by dogs accidentally inhaling food or other small substances into their lungs.

3. Secondary diseases. Many diseases in dogs can affect their own immune system and damage their respiratory tract. For example, dogs suffering from cancer, paralysis of the throat and other diseases will make the dog more susceptible to bacterial infection in the lungs, leading to pneumonia.

4. Virus invasion: Common viruses that can cause canine pneumonia include parainfluenza, canine influenza, etc. If these viral infections occur in dogs, they can cause pneumonia, and these viruses can also spread infections between dogs.

5. Bacterial infection: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus zooepidemicus, Pasteurella multocida and other bacteria are common bacteria that cause pneumonia in dogs. Pneumonia is often caused when dogs become infected, and these bacteria can also be spread between dogs.

6. Trauma: If the dog’s chest is accidentally damaged, it may also cause lung inflammation. Such as being hit by a car or falling from a height.
