A cat may die if it is not treated after 4 days of dystocia. Generally speaking, cats are most likely to encounter dystocia when they give birth for the first time. It is very dangerous if the cat's amniotic water breaks and the cat does not give birth for a long time. The cat may have dystocia for 2-3 days. The specific requirements will be judged according to the condition of your cat. If the dystocia lasts for more than three days, then even if the mother cat gives birth to the kitten, If it comes out, it will be stillborn. If it is not treated for more than four days, the mother cat will also be in danger of death. If a cat has dystocia, it is necessary to seek medical attention as soon as possible and receive professional treatment, otherwise it may lead to the death of both mother and fetus.

Causes of dystocia in cats:

1. The fetus is too large, and the fetal position, direction, and posture are abnormal. A kitten that is delivered normally will rush out of the birth canal with the contractions like a bullet, with its head forward and buttocks facing back, and the baby will be delivered successfully. If there is a problem with this posture, difficult labor may occur, such as the head is tilted, the arms are stuck, and the baby cannot rush out, etc.

2. Imbalance or deficiency of hormone levels, especially excessive progesterone levels, will cause female cats to be unable to give birth.

3. Abnormal birth canal is mainly due to underdevelopment of cats and abnormally narrow pelvis, which makes it difficult for the fetus to enter the birth canal, causing dystocia. In addition, if the cat is young and only reaches sexual maturity but not physical maturity, it will also lead to underdevelopment of the birth canal after mating and conception, leading to dystocia.
