Precautions before and after cat sterilization:

1. If a cat needs sterilization surgery, it must first be of appropriate age. The current generally accepted age is about 6-10 months.

2. The generally chosen time is after the cat is in complete estrus. If the uterus is congested during estrus, it is likely to cause heavy bleeding accidentally, so it is not recommended to perform sterilization surgery during estrus. Before surgery, make sure the cat’s vaccinations have been completed and have been given for more than a week.

3. Prepare an Elizabethan ring and surgical clothes to prevent the cat from licking the wound after surgery, which may lead to wound infection.

4. Try to prevent the cat from running and jumping within two weeks after the operation. Place the cat's bed, cat food bowl and litter box nearby for its convenience.

5. Postoperative feeding should generally follow the doctor’s instructions. If there is no special guidance from the doctor, the first feeding is usually done 3 to 6 hours after surgery. Do not force the cat to drink or eat.

6. The cat’s resting environment should be quiet and tidy and away from other animals. The cat may feel nausea and discomfort 18 to 24 hours after waking up from anesthesia, and may also become irritable. Providing a quiet environment for isolation can help your cat recover. Remember not to play with the cat or constantly pick it up to comfort it after surgery to prevent pulling on the wound.

Benefits of cat sterilization:

1. Reduce aggression and reduce loss of heat. Neutered cats can also reduce or stop urinating and taking up space, and their aggression will also change. If it is low, or even becomes very clingy, it will also reduce the risk of running away from home due to heat, being jealous, and getting injured in fights.

2. Cat sterilization can avoid the occurrence of pyometra, breast tumors, ovarian cancer, testicular cancer and other diseases, and can appropriately increase the life span of cats.

3. During estrus, cats like to howl, urinate everywhere, and are noisy at night, etc., which not only disturbs the owner’s rest but also affects the neighbors. The biggest advantage of neutering a cat is that it can avoid the trouble caused to everyone when the cat is in heat.
