How old is your dog? These five methods will teach you how to identify it!

Many friends will have such a question in the process of raising pets: "How old is he?" It is okay to buy from a regular dog/cat house. They will usually tell you the year, month and day of birth, and there will also be a birth certificate. But those who are "fate halfway" are really hard to say. In particular, they are different from people. They will not have obvious changes in appearance in just a few years. Judging their age will inevitably increase the difficulty of "refreshing the paint on an old cucumber".

So let’s judge how big the dog at home is.

1. Teeth

·Puppies

Usually, dogs will have deciduous teeth when they are 4-6 weeks old. After 8 weeks of age, the incisors, canines, and molars will be replaced by permanent teeth one by one. The teeth (baby teeth) at this time are relatively soft, so even if the dog accidentally eats them during the tooth replacement process, it is not a big problem, as the intestines and stomach can digest them.

Note: Of course, you cannot let him chew hard food or other things.

Pinch the sides of the mouth close to the ears, and the dog will automatically open its mouth

·Adult Dog

Usually after one and a half years old, the teeth will show slight wear and yellowing, and it is very easy for tartar to develop and then slowly turn into calculus or even other oral diseases.

Of course, the wear and tear of a dog’s teeth is not only related to age, but also to diet, dental bite, and other health problems. For example, the wear and tear of a dog’s teeth will definitely be completely different from those that often eat soft food and chew bones.

Note: You can add some teething toys and oral cleaning. (Portal: Did your dog brush his teeth today?)

2. Hair

The hair of adult dogs is rougher and thicker than that of puppies. At the age of 4-5, a few white hairs will slowly appear around the face; at the age of 5-6, the hair will grow significantly. It starts from the lips to around the mandible, gradually extends to the nose, eyelids, and eyebrows, and then spreads toward the back. Even the external auditory canal will grow white hairs, until the entire head is covered in white.

Usually there is a lot of white hair from the forehead to the lips (such as Sun Wukong's facial makeup), which is probably a dog over 10 years old; a dog over 13 years old usually has a white head as a whole.

Note: This judgment method is not valid for dogs with white hair, and it will be miscalculated!

3. Personality/Physique

youngDogs come with curiosity about the world, are extremely lively and active, and have a strong spirit of adventure. But after 4-5 years old, they will be calmer and slower. After the "advanced age" of ten years, the behavior will stop, the spine will be bent or bent, and the person will prefer to stay at home and reduce the amount of activity compared to going out.

4. Eyes

When a dog reaches middle age after 6 years old, you will find that his eyes seem to be covered with a blue film. This condition is called lenticular sclerosis. Don’t worry, this is a normal condition. , will not affect TA’s vision and does not require treatment. When entering old age, almost all dogs will suffer from cataracts. Cataracts are different from lenticular sclerosis. They will affect the dog's vision. If it causes other serious problems, it is recommended to communicate with a doctor for surgical treatment.

5. Health

Just like people, aging will lead to functional decline and failure of various organs. Arthritis will occur especially in the hips and legs, causing him to walk stiffly and with a limp, and he also doesn't like going up and down stairs. Of course, various diseases will follow one after another, and you will feel tired even if you go for a short walk.

The life span of a dog is about 13 years, which may be long or short. Even if they become hobbled, have all white hair, or even become sick, what remains unchanged is their love and nostalgia for us. If there are elderly dogs at home, parents please take care of them more patiently and carefully, not only out of love, but also out of responsibility.
