The Chow Chow is rarely kept as a domestic pet because it is a vigorous dog and a relatively ferocious dog. Safety measures should be taken before raising it. At present, Chow Chows are almost invisible in cities, and some places prohibit keeping such dogs.

Many people have almost never come into contact with Chow Chow, but want to raise it, so you should first understand the following knowledge!

01. Diet

Puppies can be fed 3 to 4 times a day. Dogs that exercise more as adults should eat smaller meals more often, twice a day is more appropriate.

02. Hygiene

Take a bath

Wash once every ten days or more.

Brush your teeth

Once a week, twice a week is appropriate for short-nosed dog breeds like Chow Chow.

Ear cleaning

Once a month, clean with ear drops to keep the ear canal free of odor.

03.Health

Vaccine

The six-linked vaccine is injected three times in the first year and once a year thereafter, and the rabies vaccine is injected once a year.

Internal deworming

Deworm internal parasites every three months. Even if there are no worms, you still need to deworm. Just take deworming pills (look for regular companies).

Clean anal gland secretions

Once a month, if you don’t clean it for a long time, you will get anal inflammation. But be careful and ask professionals to do this!

04. Training

Chow Chows can be very stubborn at first, but most are very intelligent and can be trained.

Some Chow Chows are willful but very sensitive to commands. You can try to train the Chow Chow by words instead of using food to lure it.

Some Chow Chows can be trained as working dogs, and a few have won the titles of "Companion Dog" (CD) and "Best Companion Dog" (CDX).

Books about Chow Chows have recorded that 1 to 2 Chow Chows obtained the "Working Dog" (UD) level, and 1 Chow Chow obtained the "Heeling Dog" level."Tracking Dog" title.

Chow Chows can be used for hunting, competing in dog shows or as family pets.

If the Chow Chow is raised with children, it can be a playmate like any other dog.

Years of experience have told us that "socialized" training is the only way to train Chow Chows to enter the family. Chow Chows that have been "socialized" trained are more stable than those that have not been trained.

05. Beauty

The poop collector should comb the Chow Chow's coat at least twice a week.

Brushing the coat is to make the long, thick coat stand up and keep it clean.

For adult Chow Chows with a ring-like mane like a lion, the dog owner should pay special attention when combing the hair. Excessive combing will pull off part of the coat.

When a puppy begins to moult, the dog owner should comb out its undercoat so that a better coat can grow.

To keep the coat in clean and good condition, a rake comb and a pin comb are required.

The rake comb is used to remove the undercoat, and the needle comb is used to comb out the longer, rough standing hairs.

06. Space

The poop collector should keep the Chow Chow in a room where it can feel quite free.

The Chow Chow does not like to be tied up at home. On the premise of ensuring its safety, the poop collector should give the Chow Chow as much freedom as possible.

The most important thing when raising a Chow Chow is safety first. If there are dense crowds around and the place is narrow, it is still not recommended. Please think carefully before deciding whether to raise it.
