How can you tell if your dog is pregnant?

Many owners have questions, why can’t their dogs feel signs of pregnancy when they are in heat and have mated? How should owners determine whether their dogs are pregnant at home?

External observation method:

Female dogs will have pregnancy reactions 2-3 weeks after mating, with loss of appetite, restlessness, and occasional vomiting.

After 3 weeks of breast enlargement, the nipples will become pinker, swollen, and more prominent than usual.

4 weeks later, the abdomen was enlarged, the breasts were sagging, the nipples were elastic, the weight was increased, and the frequency of urination increased:

After 6 weeks, the dog’s belly will become round and bulging, and fetal movements can be seen on the ventral side.

Touch inspection method:

Thirty days after the female dog has mated, a flexible flesh ball the size of an egg can be felt by touching the uterus on the abdomen, that is, an embryo.

Auscultation examination method:

30-35 days after mating, the fetus' heart sounds can be heard more clearly by placing a stethoscope on the dog's abdomen and uterus.

Urine test method:

One week after dog mating, use the human "quick-acting pregnancy test solution" to detect whether the urine contains substances similar to human chorionic gonadotropin. If the urine test shows a positive reaction, it means that the female dog is pregnant, and a negative reaction means that she is not pregnant.

X-ray detection method:

X-ray examination can be performed 40 days after mating of female dogs. At this time, the fetal bones have been calcified enough to be found on X-rays. X-ray examination before delivery can, on the one hand, know the number of fetuses and detect retained fetuses and fetal membranes early; on the other hand, it can know whether there are excessively large fetuses or malformed fetuses, and identify problems that may cause dystocia, so that caesarean section can be carried out as early as possible. preparation.

B-ultrasound monitoring method:

Female dogs can go to the hospital for B-ultrasound examination 30 days after mating. At this time, the structure and heart activity of the fetus can be detected in the gestational sac.

Note:

If the dog shows signs of pregnancy such as increased diarrhea, swollen mammary glands, or even loss of appetite, vomiting, etc. after mating, but cannot feel the presence of the fetus.

Then take it to a nearby animal hospital for a diagnosis as soon as possible. It may be caused by false pregnancy.some symptoms. Although pseudopregnancy does not cause reproductive diseases, it can affect the normal reproduction of female dogs.

The female dog’s abdomen becomes enlarged, the mammary glands develop and swell and can secrete milk.

The female dog is irritable and restless, looking for dark places to nest, likes to drink water, has poor appetite, and sometimes has symptoms such as vomiting and polyuria
