When the external force exerted by the dog exceeds the bearing limit of the bone, the integrity or continuity of the bone at the site where the external force is applied is destroyed, which is called a fracture.

Such as falling, running, twisting when jumping, being rolled over by heavy objects, etc. Fractures are often accompanied by surrounding soft tissue injuries, such as muscle contusion or rupture, blood vessel rupture, nerve contusion or rupture, and even skin rupture.

Hazards:

Bones play a role in supporting and protecting the body. Once damaged, the fractured end is likely to injure important internal organs of the body or cause damage to surrounding tissues, causing more serious harm.

Symptoms:

Whole body performance

Shock: Dogs go into shock when a fracture occurs along with soft tissue damage, massive bleeding, severe pain, or concurrent visceral damage.

Fever: There is a large amount of internal bleeding at the fracture site, or an increase in body temperature caused by wound infection.

Special signs of fracture

Deformity: Displacement of the fracture end can change the shape of the affected limb, mainly manifested as shortening, angulation, and lengthening.

Abnormal activities: Under normal circumstances, parts of the dog's limbs that cannot move appear abnormal activities after fractures.

Treatment:

Emergency first aid: should be carried out at the location of the disease to prevent the situation from worsening due to improper movement.

1. Stop bleeding. Use bandages, cloth strips, ropes, etc. to tie the wound to stop bleeding, and apply iodine to the affected area.

2. After temporarily bandaging and fixing the fracture, send it to a veterinary clinic for treatment immediately.

Prevention:

Pay attention to the hidden dangers in the environment at home, and choose a flat and open place when going out to avoid injuries or accidents to your dog.

Supplement dogs with calcium, vitamins, etc. to prevent fractures caused by osteoporosis.
