Although pet owners often bathe their dogs, they tend to neglect cleaning their ears. The long ear hairs of dogs cover the secretions in the ears, making it difficult for people to detect them. Over time, a bad smell is produced.

There are a lot of ear hairs in the dog’s ear canal, which makes the ear canal airtight. Moreover, dirt such as water poured into the ears during bathing, dust in the air, and grease secretions can easily accumulate in the ear canal. If it is not cleaned regularly, it will easily block the ear canal, affect hearing, and breed bacteria, viruses and parasites. In more serious cases, it can lead to otitis media.

What are the signs that your dog’s ears are uncomfortable?

Dogs love to shake their heads

Likes to scratch ears with hind limbs

When you open the dog’s ears, you can see dirt and smell the odor

Dog’s ears are red, swollen and prone to bleeding

There is pus or blood flowing out...

If the dog has the above signs, parents should pay attention to whether the dog’s ears need to be cleaned!

How to clean your dog’s ears?

Tools:

Ear hair powder, hemostatic forceps, ear drops, sanitary tampons

Steps:

1

Open the dog's ears, squeeze an appropriate amount of ear hair powder into the ears, and gently massage the roots of the dog's ears with your hands (so that the hair in the ears can be stained with the ear hair powder as much as possible, and reduce the pain of the dog during the process of plucking the ear hairs) ), and then pull out the more obvious ear hairs in the ears with your hands.

2

The ear hairs deep in the ears need to be pulled out with hemostatic forceps. It should be noted that the tweezers should not be inserted too deep and must be highly concentrated when pulling out. If the dog shakes its head, take out the tweezers quickly to avoid puncturing its eardrum or piercing the mucous membrane of the ear canal. The skin inside the dog’s ears is very delicate, so please be careful when cleaning!

3

After plucking the ear hair, wrap cotton with a hemostat, dip it in ear drops, and wipe the dog's ear canal. The ear drops will come into contact with the skin in the ears. Gently massage the base of the ears for about 1 minute to let the Ear wax works well with ear drops.

4

Loosen it and let the dog shake its ears naturally. The earwax in the ears will be shaken out along with the ear drops.

Finally, use a clean cotton swab to wipe the inside of the ear clean and keep the inside of the ear dry.

The above steps are easy to perform at home, and usually take 7-10 days.Cleaning your dog once can effectively prevent ear mites and prevent odor in the ears.

If the earwax in the dog’s ears is black or has a severely pungent smell, it is recommended to take the dog to a regular pet hospital for treatment.
