Should I give my cat tap water or filtered water?
As we all know, water is essential in life, whether for humans or cats. This seemingly ordinary and simple thing also has many options.
First, it’s important to understand that cats naturally have very little thirst. In the wild, cats get most of their water from the food they hunt. However, indoor cats don't get nearly as much water from their food, especially if they eat dry kibble. As a result of this low thirst, many cats become constantly dehydrated, which can lead to kidney disease over time. Kidney disease leads to further dehydration, a deadly cycle.
Cats are known for their independence and brains. They are often picky about what they eat and are sensitive to smells and tastes. This will affect their water consumption because if they don't like their water, they may not drink it. The taste of water can be affected by the bowl it's served in, whether it's city water (which is filled with a variety of chemicals) or well water (which may contain more minerals).
Filtered water is probably the best option. Because filtered water can remove unpleasant odors and tastes for cats. Another great way to give your cat water is to use a water fountain. Drinking fountains keep chemicals moving in the water and also reduce bacterial growth.
