What do you consider when choosing a cat litter box? A fully enclosed cat litter box may be less likely to scatter cat litter everywhere, but will cats hate the pressure of this space?

Grigg from Ross University was also curious about this issue, so she designed an experiment to find out whether cats prefer litter boxes with lids or without lids. The experiment included 27 domestic cats. During the 14-day observation period, they were provided with litter boxes with and without lids (other conditions such as size and material were the same). The cat litter was cleaned every day and the number of clumping cats was recorded. The weight of litter can be used to analyze the difference in the weight of cat litter to distinguish the usage levels of two litter boxes, thereby inferring whether cats have a preference for a specific litter box.

In fact, the choice of cat litter box can also be decided according to the mood of the cat!

The experimental results show that 70% of cats ((19/27)) use both litter boxes to a similar extent, 15% of cats (4/27) prefer to use the litter box without a lid, and the other 15% Cats (4/27) prefer litter boxes with lids. Later, he further analyzed six large cats (weighing more than 6 kg), and found that two cats preferred litter boxes without lids, and the remaining There is no difference between the four of them, as long as there is a litter box to use.

Through this experimental observation, the author summarizes several key points:

◆When the cat litter is cleaned once a day, most cats don’t care much about whether the litter box has a lid or not.

◆A few cats do prefer a certain type of litter box, so when dealing with the behavioral problem of random peeing, whether the litter box has a lid or not is also a factor that needs to be considered.

◆Although the number of cats in the experiment is a bit small, it is unclear whether there is a correlation between whether the litter box is fully enclosed and the size of the cat. However, no big cat particularly likes the covered litter box. Therefore, if you have a larger cat at home, it is recommended to provide a spacious litter box.
