Dogs are naturally curious, so they like to explore their surroundings. But there are many things in this world that can harm dogs. Whether it is minor or serious, accidents are inevitable. As a dog owner, all you can do is master some methods of dealing with daily injuries to dogs.

1. Injured in a fight

When two dogs fight, it is inevitable that something will happen. Generally speaking, dog fights can cause damage to the skin and soft tissue, as the dog's teeth can cause skin punctures and tears. Injuries can range from minor to severe, and deep wounds can affect tissues such as muscles, body walls, and even bones. Most dog fights result in bites to the neck, but injuries can occur to any part of the body. Different degrees of injuries can affect the head, limbs, chest, abdomen, etc.

Small dogs are more likely to be seriously injured when attacked by larger dogs. If your puppy is bitten by another dog, it could cause nerve damage or internal injuries. In addition, dogs carry a lot of bacteria in their mouths and are particularly susceptible to infection after being bitten. Traumatized tissue from a bite is easier to treat in the first hour after injury. If a wound is left untreated for a long time, treatment may become more complex and the wound may be more difficult to heal. Therefore, after discovering that the dog is bitten, the owner can cut off the hair near the wound, then apply some 5% gentian purple liquid wine, and then send the dog to the hospital for treatment in time.

 2. Eye injuries

Dogs’ eyes are also very susceptible to damage. Some thorny plants can cause eye injuries to dogs when they play outside. In addition, when dogs fight, their eyes may be scratched. Another common cause of eye injuries is road and airborne debris that can get into your dog’s eyes and cause abrasions.

If you notice that your dog is squinting, sheds tears frequently, has pus in the eyes, is red, has bulging or swollen eyes, the owner can rinse the wound with normal saline (about 500 ml), then apply erythromycin eye ointment, and take the dog away in time. The dog goes to the doctor. Because eye injuries can easily worsen, many eye injuries can be cured with medication if caught early.

3. Limb injuries

When a dog’s limbs are injured, they are likely to limp. Lameness may be caused by a break in one or more bones in the leg or paw, with fractures and joint dislocations being common causes. The fracture can be simply fixed with a bandage, gauze or board, and then the dog can be taken to the hospital for treatment.

In addition, dogs may also suffer soft tissue injuries in their legs, such as sprains or pulled muscles. This can also happen if the dog exerts too much force while running or playing. If your dog's soft tissue is injured, it usually needs to be treated with medicationCome heal and give adequate rest. Surgery may be required in severe cases of soft tissue damage.

4. Tail injury

Some dogs, especially larger breeds like Golden Retrievers or Labrador Retrievers, are particularly susceptible to Happy Tail Syndrome. Because their tails are large and heavy, when excited, they may bang their tails hard against hard surfaces, causing them to be easily bruised or bruised. These types of tail injuries can be difficult to treat because the tail can be re-injured when the dog wags it again after it heals. During this period, you may need to use bandages and other tools to restrict the dog's tail movement.

In addition, sometimes the dog's tail may be flaccid and weak, hanging limply. When a dog wags its tail after swimming or wagging it too hard, it may cause minor sprains or strains. This symptom usually goes away on its own after a few days. If your dog's tail has not recovered after a few days, it is best to take him to the doctor.

5. Oral injuries

When a dog eats hard food such as bones, the bones may get stuck around the lower jaw and canine teeth, or scratch the inner wall of the mouth. Hard foods can easily cause damage to teeth, gums, tongue and other soft tissues. If damage to the dog's oral mucosa is found, the owner can clean it with 1% saline or 2% boric acid solution, and then apply 2% gentian violet solution. Oral surgery is usually required for larger lacerations and tooth fractures.

6. Cut or scratch

Dogs are very active and like to run around, so cuts or scratches are commonplace. When a dog runs across a sharp object, such as a nail, glass, or sharp stone, it can easily cause paw injuries. Even hard foreign objects may become embedded in the pads of the feet or between the toes. When the dog is found to be scratched, the owner can treat the wound with antibiotics to prevent the wound from becoming infected. If the injury is serious, the owner should seek medical treatment in time.

Dogs are not like us, who know how to bandage themselves or seek medical advice when they are injured. When they feel pain, they just whine or lick constantly to relieve the pain. Therefore, as the most trustworthy owner of a dog, you must help them in time when you find that there is an abnormality in its body~
